My dear Mr. Lewes
We propose with your approval using in our new Series of "Tales from Blackwood" two of your stories Falsely Accused and Metamorphoses 102 and in case you have any alterations to make, I send you the sheets from Maga containing them. I think you should give your name to both, and will you fill it in as you wish to be designated unless you had rather not own them. I am glad to say that the new series promises to do well and is sustaining the reputation the first achieved.
You will be very pleased to hear that I have most satisfactory and cheering accounts of my Uncle's health since he went to Strathtyrum which I trust will continue and that you and Mrs. Lewes will find him in good force when you give him the pleasure of your visit. And by the way when is it coming off? Recollect days shorten much after this month and after middle of August it begins to get chillier with us here North. Even now when we are having lovely fine days it gets cold and chilly in the evenings and you cannot sit out there as you do in England.
Our good and faithful friend Simpson's retirement has made a sad and terrible blank here and I doubt if we shall ever find such another "Von Moltke" in our line, and a more devoted adherent you could not find. He bad us good bye on Tuesday and very full our hearts were when we parted and next morning he started for London and North Germany. How he will get on without "45" to come to and think about puzzles us, but we hope for the best and that he will have much enjoyment and comfort in his retirement from business life.
A half yearly statement of sales of Mrs. Lewes' books is being prepared and I hope soon to have the pleasure of writing with it. Will you present my kind remembrances, and hoping you are enjoying the fine summer.
