Interactive Audiobooks
Welcome to George Eliot's Interactive Audiobooks (December 2025 BETA)
Experience George Eliot’s fiction in a new way: Our interactive audiobooks feature advanced text-to-speech (TTS) technology to read George Eliot’s works aloud, with full text provided for read-along convenience.
How to Get Started:
Select a text, pick a chapter, and press play to enjoy a seamless listening and reading experience. Details below.
Using the Audiobook Player
Playback Controls: The widget in the top right corner lets you play or pause the audio, rewind or fast-forward by 30 seconds, and adjust the playback speed. You can also drag and reposition the widget anywhere on your screen for a personalized setup.
Read Along: The chapter text is always visible, making it easy to follow along as you listen.
About This Project
These audiobooks were created using Microsoft Azure’s AI-assisted text-to-speech technology by Auburn University’s Senior Design team: Evan Ginos, Alex Nolin, Colin Patrick, and Traevon Wright (Spring 2025). The playback widget was redesigned by the project’s lead developer, Dr. Yue Cui (Fall 2025).
We recognize that some users may find the audio “robotic”—this is a known limitation of current TTS technology. However, we are committed to improving accessibility for all readers and will continue to update our audiobooks as technology advances. The first iteration of our new and improved audiobooks will be Middlemarch in Multiple Voices, available later this spring, 2026.
