My Dear Mrs. Lewes
The printers were to have had the enclosed specimen page ready for me yesterday to send in my letter to you but they did not keep their promise. It is what we propose adopting for the two volumes of poetry 109 in your Cabinet edition and is I think very pretty and [chaste.] I shall be glad to hear if it meets with your approval. It is a somewhat finer type than what is used for your prose works but it is the same size in reality and in poetry it is desirable to have it sharp and fine. In this form it will run to same number of pages as in the edition now selling and will so make a handsome Volume. The other Volume will take some planning and scheming to swell it out to the required length unless you have any other poems you wish to insert in it. 110 Will you kindly let me know as to this at your early convenience?
We are pushing on with the printing of the other volumes of the Edition so that we may have it ready complete by Christmas as we look forward to the real sale beginning when people can have it in sets. The monthly publication will nevertheless be continued until the edition is complete. I think you wish proofs of both poetry Volumes to be sent you as ready.
As I have not [Von Moltke] now to write you about these details I have to trouble you and I hope I have made them sufficiently clear and believe me
