George Street Edinburgh | May 20/79.
My dear Mrs. Lewes
I have the pleasure of enclosing you cheque for £50 being payment from Baron Tauchnitz for right to reprint in his series "Impressions of Theophrastus Such" which we received from his London agent this morning. I wrote yesterday to Herr Bohn at Haarlem accepting his offer £10 for right to translate it into Dutch and to Dr. Lehman offering to accept £25 on your behalf to translate it into German. I have no doubt that he will arrange with a publisher to pay that sum. My Uncle thought you should not accept less. I am thankful to say he still continues to recover although still confined to bed. And I shall be very pleased when I am able to report to you of his being able to leave his bedroom.
I inclose lists of those to whom presentation copies of Deronda were sent and will you add or delete as you think necessary or wish. We thought better to delay any advertising until near publication and in a few days we shall come out with a burst. From what Mr. Harper wrote me we quite expect him to remit £50 on receipt of the early sheets and we should hear from him soon with draft for that amount.
Believe me always yours truly
William Blackwood.
