My dear Mrs. Lewes
I have the pleasure of enclosing Bank order £784-10-8d being amount due to you on your works at this time as per accompanying statement which I hope you will find all correct. If there is any point on which you desire explanation do not hesitate to ask me and I will do my best to make it clear. The sales of both the Cabinet and Cheap editions are most satisfactory and from the reports Mr. Langford has sent you and me I trust another as good year is before us.
How rejoiced your friend my dear Uncle would have been to have written to you with enclosed and it fills my eyes with tears thinking over it that he is no longer beside me to talk over some of the joys of the business. I am rather behindhand in sending you this statement but you know full well the cause of the delay and I feel sure you will excuse it.
I was very much touched by the affectionate way you spoke of me to Mr. Langford who is here now and told me of it soon after his arrival. I thank you sincerely and trust you will continue to find me worthy of the regard. We are getting on with our heavy task and duty and when he returns to London he will call and tell you all. I was very happy to hear from him you were keeping so well in health, and hoping this continues to find you so believe me with best regards
