George St. Edinburgh | August 13/80
My dear Mrs. Cross x x x x. In May and June business was terribly dull and even your works were not selling freely but last month things have revived I am glad to say. Before Mr. Langford went away for his holiday on the 29th of July he sent me a memo of the sales for that month and I enclose copy 466 from it of your books and of his assistant's from 29th to August 7th both which I hope will be interestingly agreeable to you. I think we have no cause to be dissatisfied. We have still copies in stock of Theophrastus and as there were a good few in the hands of the trade we thought it advisable to postpone publication of it in the Cabinet form until October although should we be sold out before then we would supply orders from Cabinet edition when asked for. Kindly excuse this long letter and believe me Dear Mrs Cross
Always yours Sincerely
(signed) William Blackwood.
P.S. I was very happy to be able to enroll Charles in the Brotherhood of Maga and I hope you liked his first contribution. 467
