Dear Rufa
Your proposition to deliver up the Strauss 503 to Mary Ann has been very cordially received, and I am sure will be a great benefit. I think she will do it admirably. She will require correcting in a few words and minor matters, but she will give the meaning faithfully and spiritedly. I have been very much pleased with some specimens she has shown me. And she will get on fast, which is a great thing. I see this is the 4th Edition; therefore I should think we may manage without getting another. M.A. has such a dislike to writing on that large blue paper, that I have thought it expedient to indulge her in getting her own -- she has just said that as you have the paper she will not mind to use it -- telling her that all expenses are to be repaid her, and that she is to keep an exact account of every thing she spends. I should like to read with her all the manuscript already completed -- indeed to let her see all that has been done -- and therefore would like it to be sent while I am here. But we do not want it immediately. . . . I have finished the 14 'a7 in the first rough copy, and am now going over it again with M.A. and copying it over. It is remarkably difficult, but we both think it very interesting.
