I have been talking with Miss Evans about the Strauss, and she wishes decidedly to have the correcting of her own proofs and revises herself. She said she should wish to undertake the expense of the postage herself so that she need have no scruples or anxiety about it. But at the same time she would be very glad of the benefit of Charles's revision, if he can give it, and would like to send the proofs after she has corrected them, to him with the German to be forwarded to the printer. If they were sent to him in town, and he could forward them the same day, it would cause least delay; but even if he had to take them home, she thinks it would be worth while. Any alteration which was merely a matter of taste, she says, she should like him to make; if it affected the fidelity of the translation, she should wish to reconsider it herself, either delaying the proof, or altering it in the revise.
Please to turn over these matters according to your discretion and send her word in due time. I long to know how it is getting on -- rather wishing it may not come to her till I return, that I may direct her notice to various things.
