Text: Bray-Hennell Extracts, Tinker Collection, Yale. Hitherto unpublished.
We had a nice invitation to dine at Atherstone Hall 549 to meet Harriet Martineau. 550 . . . M.A. and I both felt that we admire Miss M. much more for having seen her. C. was disappointed with her small ordinary-looking woman's head, and wonders how the poor head can have done so much. Her conversation is delightful, and her manners so perfectly easy and lady-like. She talked much with me about her brother James, Alfred etc. when she found I was related, and of course very much about mesmerism.
