Coventry | March 23.
My dear Marian,
I will do as you say, try and produce something that may be impressive to little savages, -- and I will cash your cheque and deposit £50 in the Bank, and if I fail in my work, you will let it be applied to the good cause in some better way. Your words are as kind and considerate and encouraging as words can be, -- and I shall read from your dear letters again and again, and they will help me as words of yours have helped me ages ago.
Mr. Smithers is not so bad, I think, since he cannot make much profit out of the books he dresses so prettily, and he seems most liberal with his time and money in the Society's work -- though hemmed in by his Evangelicalism. Believe me, my dear and true friend
Always your loving
Cara.
