Dearest Lewes
We propose a pilgrimage to the Priory next Thursday. 281 Will the Prior and Prioress receive us at 3.30 p.m.? I find that 4.30 will be too late for Edith.
You have my dear friend been so singularly kind and helpful about my Poppy 282 that I am encouraged to bespeak for myself the advantage of ten minutes' talk with you about it when we meet. I think I need not then detain you a moment longer -- on that subject -- if in the meanwhile you can oblige me by glancing over the accompanying copy -- on which I have marked proposed omissions some of them contemplated before I received your letter, others suggested by your letter. The marks are slovenly -- but as regards the particular point (my abridgment) which it is desirable to settle before considering other alterations (of meter or expression) I think you will find them sufficiently intelligible.
If you will give me on Thursday your opinion upon these proposed omissions with any further suggestions that may have occurred to you -- I will then take back with me the copy now sent. I have not yet attended to all your suggestions for verbal alteration but every one of them shall be carried out.
I was so glad to make your son's acquaintance the other day. 283 What a bright sympathetic frank face and manner he has!
Not a word have I yet had with Mrs. Lewes. Sunday is a very interesting day, but as it is her Court day when one can only pass and kiss hands I shall hope for a private audience now and then. 284
There are two things I much want to speak to you about. Pray remind me to do so next Thursday. One is a matter about vivisection, and the other is about some unpublished plays of my father.
