. . . I am most curious as to the result of the Middlemarch experiment, and I only regret, so important do I think it to get out of the clutches of Mudie, that it will not be more fairly tried. My only objection to the form and price (I have not seen what it is like) is that it does not even appear to give any advantage to purchasers. Yet, I suppose, illustrations apart, the volume will be cheaper than 5/ Christmas books. . . .
