Paternoster Row | 16 Feb. '57.
I heard a curious thing about Amos Barton, namely that it is the actual life of a clergyman named Gwythir who at the time the incidents occurred lived at a place called, I think, Coton in one of the midland counties and who is now vicar of a small parish in Yorkshire. Indeed his daughter wrote to a lady, a friend of mine, telling her to be sure to read the story as it was their family history.
