My dear Sir,
I think the sooner pt I of G. Eliot's story can be published the better to keep it out of the ruck of books in December. I should prefer the end of November if possible.
As to an advertising sheet I am doubtful. We shall have no certain circulation to guarantee and advertisers only understand numbers. With the Dickens and Thackeray serials the one was sure of a sale of from 30,000 to 40,000 of Part 1 and the other of 12,000 to 15,000. If we do try it I should recommend its being put into the hands of an agent. Who would get the profit on an advertising sheet? What size is the work to be printed -- in demy octavo like "Les Miserables"? which was published, I think, in thin, lightly printed demy 8'b0ree; volumes at 8 francs -- with very little on a page. . . .
