My dear Sir
I send you the first few pages of your article, please return them by next post as they will liberate another sheet for press. What title shall we adopt? The one on the Pamphlet is too long, and "Prison Discipline" seems to me scarcely descriptive of the article. 204 "The Treatment of Criminals" seems to me the text of the article -- but perhaps you will fix on a title.
I think 6 weeks should elapse from the first of April, before the Pamphlet is published separately. Will this arrangement meet with your approval? Notwithstanding this early re-publication and the fact that you do not transfer to me the copyright of your article, as is the case with the other contributors to the Review (one 205 only excepted), I should still feel bound to pay you for the article as proposed in my last letter, had not the tenor and tone of your reply removed the feelings which dictated that proposal. I shall now be glad conformably with your suggestion to accept the article on the terms originally arranged between us.
There is a parcel lying here (a roll) for you, will you please direct what shall be done with it? I am my dear Sir
