My Dear Bill
I thought I had said to go on printing Adam -- I think you may venture on 3000. Hamiltons offered today to take any number we liked if we would give 25/24 to this half. I told Langford to indulge them and he will probably tell you the number. I am going out to see the author tomorrow.
I half venture to think that before I leave London I should do something decisive about the new Novel. I have very little doubt that at present a new work by George Eliot might affect the sale of the Mag. most materially especially when there is an upward tendency already. What do you think we could offer? . . .
