My Dear Willie
I had long interview with the Lewes' yesterday and very pleasant it was. He and I were reproaching her for not fairly beginning to write and she defended herself by saying, "Well I have made notes for a great many scenes." There is a talk of making a start on New Year's day. She seems to be studying her subject as subject never was studied before.
We are going there this afternoon and will give him your account of Caliban's 897 exploit, which has put me into fits. Archie is in an extasy with it and will certainly ask him to his Club on the first opportunity. I do not know that I will have time to write afterwards as we go on to Thackeray. I dine late with Sir James Fergusson 898 and will probably take Jem a letter after post hours. . . . We go by 4 o'clock train to Mount Felix, Walton-on-Thames.
I have just seen Delane who reports the Queen 899 as well as could be wished and weeping. He has not heard from there about her since she went to Osborn.
