My Dear Lewes
I inclose proof of Seaside Studies part 4 which is pleasant like its predecessors. The Anti-anemonists will, I doubt not, have had enough of the Series, but I think you were right to divide the last part. The wind up should I think be brief and as popular in character to suit the general reader as you can make it.
I inclose a note which George Eliot should see. I hope the old gentleman is under a delusion and that our friend has not in his love of reality said anything to identify his story with living characters.
I have written to Mr. Jones saying that there are to be more parts of Janet, that of course I had no intention of hurting his feelings and the author as little -- that I believed him to be laboring under one of the mistaken impressions frequently arising from a similarity of incidents in real and fictitious life. I shall be curious to hear from Eliot.
There is no present prospect of my being in London this autumn, so our meeting must be postponed until next Spring.
