The Burlington May 26/73.
My dear Lewes
Thanks for your letter which is very handsome and like a gentleman as I expected. I cannot tell you how much it hurts and worries me to have caused you this contretemps, but it will not I trust be any practical loss. Perhaps the cheapest quickest way will be for us print this volume, but write your instructions to Mr. Simpson who will either send up the proofs and M.S. or hurry it through the press as you may instruct. 804 Before leaving the subject I think it right to mention that I have never seen Professor Tait nor had any communication with him except the letter which I sent to you.
I would have come up to see you Saturday but have been unavoidably detained and propose coming tomorrow about five. Willie is in Town and will come with me. 805
ever Yours Truly
John Blackwood.
G. H. Lewes Esq.
