My Dear Lewes
I inclose cheque £92.18.6. in acknowledgment of Spanish Gypsy being Mrs. Lewes' lordship of 1/6 a copy on 1239 copies sold since our last settlement. The inclosed statement 132 for my guidance has been lying in my desk for the last six weeks, during which time I have intended almost daily to write to her or you. The sales of late are very small but still it moves. The balance of your Physiology has not been made up but it will be a mere trifle.
I am very sorry indeed to hear that you have been so poorly and I hope the expedition to Germany will do you both good. What has Mrs. Lewes been doing? I have constantly intended to write to ask how she was and what she was doing. I hope she has been pretty well and getting on with the various plans she had in hand. Ask her to write to me.
Bar coughing offensively like most other people this winter, I have been very well.
