Edinburgh | April 24/66.
My Dear Lewes
I inclose formal offer for Felix Holt which our previous correspondence leads me to believe will be accepted. I would write a long letter but from various causes I only got the two volumes finished about an hour ago and it is now close upon post time.
I am lost in wonder and admiration of Mrs. Lewes' powers. It is not like a Novel and there may be a complaint of want of the ordinary Novel interest, but it is like looking on at a series of panoramas where human beings speak and act before us. There is hardly a page where there is not some turn of expression, witty or wise or both which one loves to dwell upon, but there is no time to write more.
always yours truly
John Blackwood.
G. H. Lewes Esq.
