My dear Lewes
I am happy to tell you that the prospects of the Physiology are very satisfactory. Mr. Simpson did not think it worth while to make any Statement as at Midsummer, and it was not, as a volume has not been published and no results could have been shewn.
The Sales are something like 4000 at least in numbers and about 1800 of the volume are disposed of. We made the price of the volume 6/- as it looked worth that. This makes the profit on the sale in volumes greater in proportion than in numbers and of course we will give you your full Share of the benefit when we see what is the Sale in numbers and volumes.
What are you about for the Magazine? When I went into my library to look for the nature printed volume 479 I found a Balaklava of chairs and tables carried from the drawing room and the bookcases matted up. So that I could lay hands on nothing but J. Lausay. Bradbury will give another copy if you think you would go at that subject at present.
A friend of mine Mr. Patterson has got the Press Newspaper 480 and I suppose enters on his labours almost immediately. He is a very able, well informed man and a good writer. He is also a real good worthy fellow as you could wish to know. I think you might give him a hand with advantage occasionally and I should be glad if you could. Should I give him a note to you or would you adopt the simple process of calling at the Press office where he is to be found although he has not fairly taken possession yet? I know he is anxious to make your acquaintance.
I remain in the country until the end of the month and am only in town for a few days.
