My Dear Sir
I inclose proof of Janet's Repentance part III and I beg to congratulate you upon it. It is first rate. At pages 3 and 4 you hit the nail on the head. That passage cannot be too highly praised -- full of sound sense and real religious feeling. The root of the matter is in it.
In spite of the objections I mentioned I had a conviction from the first that Janet would turn out something very wonderful and I could not have anticipated anything more powerfully interesting and exciting than the close of this part. I look with great impatience for the rest of the M.S.
This is a lovely morning for the 12th 950 and I rather grudge not having made arrangements to be on the Hill by daybreak. If I shoot at all it will not be until much later in the Season. There is fishing in these parts but I have either been too busy or too lazy, as I have never taken out my rod. The weather is so fine and the country so beautiful that there is amusement enough without any special pursuit.
Tell Lewes that I shall be able to send him his proof tomorrow or next day. Address to Edinburgh.
