My Dear Sir
Allow me to congratulate you on the conclusion of Adam Bede, 1222 which is very beautiful. The supper party at the Poyser's 1223 is delightful and Martin's preternatural shrewdness made me laugh. The meeting between Adam and Dinah on the hillside 1224 is picturesque and touching. I should have liked to see the meeting between Adam and Arthur, but I daresay you were wisest only to indicate it. 1225
I inclose the two front sheets of the book, which I have read with great pleasure.
If the provincial dialect was not so exceedingly good, I would be inclined to say that there should be less of it.
The inclosed came today from Tauchnitz's agent. 1226 The offer should be accepted I think.
