My dear Mrs. Lewes
Revise of the whole of Theophrastus is sent to you to-day and I hope you will find it all correct. Mr. Allardyce has a few queries marked on proof. I incline to put in a petition in favour of George the III about whom there was a great deal of good and he fought well with his troubled brain. The book requires such very close and attentive reading that I almost wish you had put in a heading for each page.
I am very much touched by your note to my Nephew and I am sure he will appreciate your kindly feeling to him.
In regard to date of publication I think it would be a pity to delay beyond May or June. The explanatory [note] as to when the M.S. was received will be conclusive as to when the book was written and the longer delay would be more than likely to cause the surmise you dread of your recent work. But indeed you need not fear any such [thing?] in any unkindly sense as no one will be brute enough to be otherwise than glad to see any publication from you which may possibly divert your thoughts.
