Dearest Pater
I have just received your letter with the cheque for £25, for which we are very much obliged. We are expecting the piano every day, it has been a long time coming from Durban owing to the difficulty in getting transport. I also expect the Box of Books to arrive at the same time.
Newcastle 14th 1874.
I find on my arrival in Newcastle the piano has arrived. But not the Books. Since I last wrote I have been well for a few weeks. But foolish like I drove my wagon to get some timber from the Bush when I returned I was layed up again as bad as ever. However I got some more Strychnica and Iron and am now getting better again of the Neuralgia but feel ill from the effects of the Strychnica. Eliza is better then when I last wrote. Marian was 2 years old on the 2nd November her height is 32'bd inches, and broad in proportion. Our sheep are doing well we have just done shearing we got 591 lbs. of wool this time. We have 3 calves, the rest of our cows have not yet calved they are very late this year. If they all calf we shall have 11 calves this year.
