My dear Willie
We agree with your uncle about the subtitle which although useful for the advertisement is superfluous to any one holding the book in his hand who would see at once it was a story of modern English life. 377
Mrs. Lewes was much pleased at your pleasure in the book. I read her your letter while she lay in bed suffering severe pains in the stomach. Yesterday I gave account of her to your uncle!
Ever yours
