Wednesday night.
My dear Willie
The enclosed 385 just arrived. You will see what just cause of complaint the Harpers have and how inexcusable the delay must appear to them. I have written to say (what I hope you conveyed in your telegram) that at any inconvenience to us the publication should be postponed till March if they desired it.
Meanwhile to prevent any recurrence of such cases will you please to ask Mr. Simpson to arrange that Harpers have Part II at once and each succeeding part at least one month in advance of publication?
Yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
Did your telegram to New York put the question distinctly as to postponement? If not please send one to that effect.

Signature

G. H. Lewes.
