My dear Lytton
Feeling very disappointed at not hearing from Fields, I again wrote to him last week saying you were now in town and asking if any letter had reached. With regard to telegraphing I should counsel not -- in the first place it wouldn't do for you to appear too anxious, in the next you cannot expect him to telegraph a full proposition to you and my letter (the last) having been addressed to the firm will be certain of a reply by return and you shall have it as soon as possible after I get it. If you like to telegraph merely to ask Fields to address the letter to you direct -- saying that I am out of town -- that might hasten the receipt of the answer by two or three days. His address is -- or rather the firm -- Fields Osgood and Co. | Boston U.S. | I would just say, "Please address your answer to Mr. Lewes on my affair to R. L. at --"
My advice is to see Smith rather than write to him. But not till after hearing from Fields.
We shall be here till the 30th and then go on to Whitby. Let me hear of your whereabouts as you move that I may communicate when necessary.
