My dear Mrs. Lytton
Your letter was a surprise and a pain to me. I had no conception that Robert was contemplating an operation -- not a serious one I hope?
A thought strikes me -- was his note to me written under the idea that he was the kind of animal I should be likely to operate on, and did he need my vivisecting curiosity?
But to be serious, if while he is an invalid he would like me to come over and chat with him only let me know.
Meanwhile believe me, Dear Mrs. Lytton
