Dear Mrs. Bray
Alas! Marian is in such an uncertain state of health -- recovering from another bad attack of her old enemy which came on on Monday morning at 4 o'clock -- (and while we were on a visit to Jowett at Oxford and I didn't know where the servants slept, so couldn't get her hot water or any other aid!) that it is only a bare chance she may be well enough to see you on Wednesday. In this case we think the best thing for us to do will be to come to you at the Calls about 'bc to 3 on Wednesday if she is well enough and we can drive you in the park if the weather is fine, if not you can have your talk in the drawingroom. 294 This arrangement seems the most feasible under the circumstances though she would like to have you to lunch if she felt sure of herself.
