MS: Parrish Collection, Princeton. Hitherto unpublished.
October 1871.
Gentlemen
By this mail Blackwood will send you proofs of the 4 first sheets 377 -- I also send duplicate of the same with some few corrections not in the proofs they send. The other sheets will follow rapidly.
If you begin on the 4th November and finish on the 9th December that will give you 6 weeks, and if we publish on the 1 December, the completed part you will be able to bring out your volume before the sheets reach America from here, so that the reprinters will be distanced completely.
Respecting the succeeding parts I shall send you due notice. We shall publish part II on the 1 February, so you can resume the publication the first or second week in January.
All formalities -- if any -- respecting Canada will be attended to here.
No illustrations to our publication and I hope none to yours. In haste
Ever yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
Mess. J. R. Osgood and Co.
The extra slip -- Prelude -- will of course open the part. The printer, treating it as a preface set it up last.

Signature

G. H. Lewes.
