1 North Bank | Regent's Park | August 21st.
Gentlemen
Mrs. Lewes begs me to thank you for the kind expressions of your letter of the 7th and to say that it is entirely out of her way to write short stories -- she has no impulse in that direction. 928
I may also add that were she so disposed the terms you offer are totally inadequate; ten times that sum would not be equivalent to the prices she is accustomed to receive.
Believe me, Gentlemen
Yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
