February 72.
Dear Miss Field
Dining out is one of my costly pleasures -- it means a headache next day and therefore I am very sparing in my indulgence. On this account and because I am going to dine out to-day -- one excess being enough for one week -- I am forced to decline your otherwise tempting invitation.
I shall invade you some afternoon with claims [growing out] of this one.
Yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
