My dear Johnnie
"Witley Cross" is more ravishing than we fancied it -- especially in this splendid weather -- and the walks and drives are so much better than Society! (with a big S). Indeed although we are not yet settled, and have still the workmen in the house, and although there have been botherations with pipes, and mattings -- tomorrow all the matting will have to be relaid -- we don't grumble at anything but stroll about our property and say "how lovely!"
Your aunt has borne the Cambridge excitement and moving remarkably well and is much stronger than she was. Our visit to Cambridge was a continual success. We came here on Monday evening, but not till the next evening did all the furniture arrive from London -- promised faithfully for Saturday!
We find the commissariat a difficulty -- grocer only calls once a fortnight -- and our fishmonger. By the way would you kindly look in as you pass on the fishmonger at the Waterloo Station and ask him on what terms he will supply us regularly with whatever may be the fish of the day -- on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tell him we are but two, and therefore want ordinarily but a small dish; and we will let him know the day before when we want something extra for visitors. If he can send them to the station by the first train our coachman will bring them up.
And what news of the mother of Gracchi? and the Gracchi? and the Doves? and the Six Milers? 708 Love, Love, Love, to them all
