My dear Sir
You know my opinion respecting length of articles, but you also know (or have forgotten,) my decided refusal to accept any limits to the Developement Hypothesis article 172 -- what space the subject naturally and necessarily takes I have more than once declared must be given to it, if it be done at all. But we do not appear to consider the importance of the subject in the same light as you now, after allowing 50 pages to John Knox, 173 want the Dev. Hypo. within 32!
As you do not seem to value the proposed article enough to give it the space in which it can be made effective, n'en parlons plus. I will do it elsewhere.
Yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
