Holly Lodge | 27 December 1859.
My dear Blackwood
A dismal Christmas and a miserable New Year to you! May Maga perish; and Maggie not "repay perusal"! Voil'e0!
I suppose you got Mrs. Lewes's letter 489 addressed to the Cavendish? She is now in deep water (and deep feeling) and is sailing away at a steady rate.
On the fly leaf I send you a translation of Karl Vogt's 490 opinion of the "Seaside Studies" for use when wanted.
Mrs. Lewes begs me to add that, thanks to you, she is now enjoying Prof. Wilson's glorious rhapsodies on Homer in tempting type. 491
With our kind remembrances to the Major believe me
Ever faithfully yours,
G. H. Lewes.
John Blackwood, Esq.
