My dear Blackwood
If you could set afloat a paragraph to my disadvantage I have no doubt that Mr. Hempworth Dixon 111 would cordially open the columns of the "Athenaeum" to the same; but to no other. Nor have I any relations with the pressgang here, nor any wish to cultivate them, certainly not to ask them to do anything for me. If you think the Edinburgh Papers might advantageously be employed in this matter you can turn a sentence somewhat to this effect. "In spite of their numerous works in all branches of science the Germans are always ready to honor those of foreign writers. The well known firm of Brockhaus at Leipsic announces a translation of Lewes's Physiology of Common Life; and we understand that the celebrated Professor Victor Carus 112 has offered to be the translator. This is a great compliment to our country-man."
Pray let me see a proof of the Pond.
Enclosed is a letter from G.E. I agree with him that the Liggins myth is getting so serious that it would be very desirable for you to step in; and by saying that you don't intend to answer other questions that will save you in future.
