Herewith goes Tom Jones, which I hope you will like -- I have rather exaggerated the praise in order not to raise too great a hubbub. 459
Yesterday I consigned to the shoulders of Langford the onerous responsibility of volume 1 of the Mill. The second will come when you have advanced some way with the printing. Please keep the m.s. for yours truly!
You will be pleased, as I was, to learn that Dr. Daubeny 460 has been delivering a Lecture at Oxford on "Animal Nutrition with reference to Lewes's Physiology of Common Life" -- this has been printed in the Gardener's Chronicle. In it he takes up the cudgels for Liebig against me, but is throughout very courteous and complimentary and strongly recommends the book to the students. Rejoice Mr. Simpson's heart with that!
