My dear Blackwood
It is very pleasant to hear satisfactory news of the Physiology, and the sale in volumes seems to promise. By the way as the Medical Schools are now opening in England and Scotland would it not be desirable to have some extra advertizing with a view to catch the students? It is not easy to get that class of purchasers; but once got 'tis a good and renewing public.
I shall be very happy to make Mr. Patten's 350 acquaintance, although I fear I shall not be able to render him any assistance. The state of my health, and the absorption of my time in scientific pursuits, put a great check on miscellaneous writing of the journalistic kind.
It is owing to my health that you have not sooner had a paper I am concocting on "Another pleasant French Book," 351 but I hope to send it you in a few days. Bradbury on Sea Weeds will keep till the Commission has sat on Balaclava.
Mrs. Lewes begs me to send her kind regards, and say she will write to you in a few days. She is delighted of course with the good news. Maggie grows slowly into womanhood -- and since she is to rival Adam -- she had better take her time, and not be outgrowing her strength. I have just heard the first volume over again, not bit by bit as heretofore, but en masse; and my admiration increases with familiarity.
