My dear Blackwood
Mrs. Lewes and I have only just returned from the Isle of Wight whither we made a rapid flight in search of health, I having been unable to work for a week. Your letter with its enclosures awaited us.
Since you seem to have set your mind on my doing an article on Owen I will ruminate the matter and see whether I can do it historically; for dogmatically I don't feel at all competent. I will ask him about Johnston 96 the first time I see him.
By this post I send you the review of Miss Austen, in case it may happen to be more convenient for you to put it in next month; but I should prefer the "Ponderings" to take precedence, as this is the time ponderers ought to "ponder well." 97
Moving into my new house has so much exceeded my calculation of expences that it would be a great convenience to me if you would make the second payment for the "Physiology" shortly. You were kind enough to say that this second payment might be anticipated, if wanted; but I had no idea of being in any want of this convenience.
G.E. has a delicious bit of myth for you; but he shall give it himself. How you can drink your wine from the skull of Liggins, and yet wear a smug face before the whole world is one of the mysteries of our time! What a chance for Adam -- to become a contributor to the "Eclectic"!
By the way you were to tell us what you thought of Spurgeon.

A letter has just come from Brockhaus of Leipsig wishing to know what the exact cost of each cast of the illustrations of Physiology will be. He has I fancy some vague idea that I meant the cuts themselves, when I mentioned casts; but at any rate please let me know the price that I may satisfy him.
