My dear Blackwood
By this post I send Hunger and Thirst, which is not much altered, and only elucidated here and there. Unless you want the m.s.s. I prefer keeping it by me and sending it part by part in order to add anything if need be. The book is however nearly all done; though I am rewriting for the fourth time the difficult chapters on the Nervous System; and shall perhaps rewrite them again before they go to press. One can't be too particular -- and I want the book to be permanent.
I have been so occupied with experiment and dissection for many months 1207 that I begin to want the relaxation of a little literature. Would you like an article on Biot's M'e9langes for Maga? it gives biographical accounts of Laplace, Newton, Lagrange, Galileo, -- and some pleasant semi-scientific papers. There are some anecdotes and passages which would make a popular article I think. 1208
The letter you sent to George Eliot was not from an admirer he tells me, but from the editor of the Military Spectator begging for a copy of the "Scenes" to review in that "widely circulated journal." G.E. asks me to mention it to you -- you will know whether there would be any use in sending a copy.
