My dear Blackwood
The proof, letter and checque for G. E. 338 arrived this morning. Will you please ask the printer always to send me duplicates of the proofs that I may send them to Owen and other pundits for correction when needful?
About the edition I think you had better wait till the plates are ready, some of which I expect daily, as they will give you an idea of the aspect of the book. If Kingsley could sell 3 editions of Glaucus 339 which had nothing whatever new in it, nothing of his own except the preaching, we ought to be able to get off 1250, but it's a horrid bore having a weight of unsold copies on one's shelf.
I have written a paper on "Phrenology in France" 340 which will make the phrenologists all the more savage because they must see that I am not indisposed to recognize such truth as they really have achieved. If you like to print it, and if you would prefer the personal pronoun instead of the impersonal "we," I can make that alteration in proof. If you don't like it, there's no harm done; so I send it on the chance.
