GHL to John Blackwood, Richmond, [24 September 1858]
MS: National Library of Scotland. Endorsed: I have written Lewes telling him that it has been through a mistake of mine Tr'fcbner has not answered. Hitherto unpublished.
Park Shot | Richmond | Friday.
My dear Blackwood
On Tuesday I was at Tr'fcbner's and he mentioned casually that Brockhaus wanted to buy the copyright of Clerical Scenes for Germany -- "but Mr. Eliot has not answered," said Tr'fcbner. Now as my letter containing Eliot's message that he would sell the right of translation and reprint for 50 £ went off about a fortnight ago, enclosing at the same time a sketch of a prospectus for the Physiology of Common Life, I begin to fear the letter must have miscarried -- Is it so? -- or is it only that you have been too busy. I hope the latter because I have no copy of the prospectus and shouldn't like to lose it.
In haste ever yours
G. H. L.
