My dear Blackwood
I am truly glad that you like the idea of the series which it will be a real pleasure to me to write. This first part is by no means a fair specimen of the interest that can be thrown into the subject.
I will cut out the negro-eating as you both dislike it; although as a rule I always prefer a specific to a general statement. 357
As to the chance of some one usurping the title, it is really alarming. I think the best way to prevent it -- and all vexation -- will be for you to advertize in the Magazine -- on the back of Johnston and anywhere else where you can do so free of expence the following: In preparation | The Physiology of Common life | By G. H. Lewes, | As a companion to Johnston's | Chemistry of Common Life. By giving the title and author in full and by saying it is in preparation all equivocation is blocked out. What say you to this?
By the way are you going to publish my Algerine friend's paper? 358 If not -- and if you haven't mislaid it among your heaps of m.s. -- I should be glad to have it back. In haste
