My dear Sir
By this post I send you the paper on Anemones, which ought to create a stir among the naturalists, if only from its novelties. Prof. Owen was greatly struck with some of my results. The paper is however graver than I could wish, especially for the reader not interested beforehand in the subject.
Let me see a proof. By the way perhaps you will send me the [Amos Barton] proofs?
Is it to you or to Mr. Page that I am indebted for the copy of the Text Book of Geology? 771 Who ever sent it must accept my warmest thanks -- a better book I never read -- and so pleased was I that I scribbled a notice of it for the Leader, to which I still occasionally contribute, (though, as perhaps you know, I have given up editorship, or any serious participation in it for the last three years) -- and hope the notice will direct many persons to it. Believe me

Your letter and the proofs of Barton have just come. I will give them to the author who will be extremely gratified, I know. Mrs. Blackwood's testimony is better than our's -- certainly than mine, who know nothing of country parsons.
