My Dear Blackwood,
We were very pleased to hear your opinion of '91Silas.'92 In spite of my delight in the book I cannot help occasionally being made anxious by her persistent depreciation of what she writes. It is in vain that I remember how she always has felt so about her writing -- in vain that I recall how pleased I have been on hearing it read aloud -- a sort of doubt will overpower me; and when you come to my aid I rally again.
