Dear Blackwood
Tom Trollope in a letter just received begs me to ask you whether a story entitled [Plagassian] 3 which he sent you for Maga some three months past has reached its destination. Not having heard from you he fears the post may have played him false. He says he doesn't wish to hurry you in reading or deciding on the story but only to know that it has reached you safely. Let me know as I have to write to him -- and if it has arrived I should be glad also to be able to intimate your decision to him.
I have just had sorrowful intelligence from Thornton which I am sure you will sympathize with. 4 The poor fellow has stone in the kidney and his sufferings are so great that I have written to him to come over to England and have the best advice and perhaps go through an operation. The vision of him haunts me incessantly.
