My dear Blackwood
She was much pleased to hear that the second reading was not a falling off. She is decidedly better in health since our return, but proceeds very slowly and despondingly with volume 3. Non fit aliter!
As to terms, yes, the old Middlemarch both price and lordship. May the success be as great! 326
I am curious to hear how volume 2 will affect you and whether you find a crescendo of interest.
I am going to Cambridge next week to work in the Physiological laboratory 327 -- but have a wretched account to give of myself. Nervous exhaustion has for some weeks entirely prevented work and I am only now feebly beginning again.
Ever yours truly
G. H. Lewes.
