My dear Blackwood
I am glad to think that arrangements have been made as to printing which prevent any loss having occurred, 198 and hope that the loss of time may be in some degree lessened by encreased energy in future. I sent back the six sheets yesterday.
When the guinea edition of Middlemarch was first contemplated we both thought it a risk and neither you nor I imagined that we should sell more than 500 copies at that price. On such a supposition your proposed royalty was quite acceptable; but now the event has turned out so very differently, and the rapid sale of 1500 has so pleasantly disproved our calculations ought not the royalty to be encreased?
We were sorry to miss seeing you yesterday -- all the more so because after all we did not have to run down to Chislehurst, the gentleman having written to postpone our visit till Monday. 199
